Bonnaroo 2006 Lineup

Who's excited? I sure am with this latest announcement of the lineup for Bonnaroo 2006. Radiohead and Tom Petty will be the headliners with a lot other awesome bands. To this day I have never seen a better live show than the one I saw with Radiohead. I still listen to that show daily because it still makes the iPod playlist.

Podcast #4

Podcasts? I forgot about the podcasts! Actually I made podcast #3 but lost in somewhere in the transition of transfering some files around..but here is podcast 4. Drop a band's name in the comment section if you would like to me include them next week.

This week's episode includes:

Umphrey's McGee (12/31/05) - Jimmy Stewart>The Bottom Half
Tea Leaf Green (23/31/05) - John Brown
moe. (4/20/01) - Plane Crash
Serialpod (12/17/05) - Angel

You can download the podcast here.

Odds and Ends

I thought I would make a pretty decent size post with a lot of music before I go out of town. Unfortunatetly, I'm not doing anything too exciting but working somewhere else and putting a lot of hours in starting tomorrow.

I'd also like to welcome Charlie to the blog, he started Phish & Chips the radio show with me 2 years ago and still continues to DJ on WSUW-FM with his own show, Jerry's Pine Party on Friday nights from 8PM to 2AM CST. I know Charlie will be posting his setlists weekly, and probably adding a few kind words and sounds here and there.

We'll start off with some Fat Maw Rooney, a band I featured on Taste of Cheese a few weeks ago.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - KSAN

In 1973 Bob Marley and The Wailers were finishing up their last scheduled shows with Sly & The Family Stone, but were eventually dumped from the tour. The Wailers seemed to getting more of attention then Sly & The Family Stone and were now stranded in Las Vegas. They decided to regroup and perform two sold out shows at The Matrix in San Francisco with little promotion. After two great successful shows the Wailers booked two more shows and were the hottest selling ticket in San Francisco. KSAN hyped The Wailers from the start always spinning their music on progressive rock station. They offered a live broadcast, and the morning after their last show they performed at The Record Plant in Sausalito for KSAN.

Back in Action...

I believe this week has been the longest week ever. Charter.com shut off our cable on Monday morning and it finally returned today. I realized I need the internet. Well not need, but its pretty much how I keep in touch with everything...current events, music, and socially (this was easily fixed by using the cell phone).

Next week, a friend of mine will begin posting (hopefully) and I will attempt to post a new podcast after I accidentally forgot to for a few weeks. I'm going to leave you with some My Morning Jacket (if you can't get enough!)

Galactic will be back on the road again after announcing their upcoming Coup De Gras Tour. After forming in the mid 90's in New Orleans and also being inspired by the sounds of New Orleans this tour will feature tradition Crescent-City openers throughout the tournament.

Wakarusa Festival Lineup

The 3rd Annual Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival has announced their current lineup. Keller Williams, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, The Greyboy Allstars, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are just a few of the names listed to be performing in Lawrence, Kansas in early June.

For the entire roster lineup, visit http://www.wakarusa.com/

I really like the lineup and may just have to add this to the "things to do this summer". I just purchased by tickets to Summer Camp and Langerado, and I think this might also work itself into the summer plans.

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones (4/6/2004) - Sex in a Pan

Ski Jam

The 3rd Annual Ski Jam is over and Relix has a nice featured diary of the event. Featured in the picture is Speech from Arrested Development. My first tape ever was from Arrested Development and I also remember buying Speech's solo cd and listening to his rendition of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". I wish I could find it and post it here, but no such luck as the Speech cd has probably vanished from my collection.

Read the diary.

Milwaukee Attacks!

Believe it or not Milwaukee could be the next "It" city according to Edward Keenan. This of course was done according to some high tech mathematical equation. You can read more here.

I'm not sure what to think on this one. Milwaukee seems spread among too many neighborhoods with their own musical atmosphere. We'll have to see if this really happens, but I'd be thrilled if it was true.

Taste of Cheese (Wisconsin Exposure 2 of 5)

Anyone else from Wisconsin or Minnesota notice the explosiveness of Fat Maw Rooney? While my two years at WSUW I had heard about FMR from the guys of Stealin' Strings, and I was finally able to see them last October as they opened for the Big Wu. After watching the Stealin' Strings set my friends weren't too interested in staying for the Big Wu, but I convinced them to see FMR after I had heard all the hype about them. FMR that night put on quite a show while keeping the crowd busy with the danceable grooves. On New Years they played at Olympia in Oconomowoc, WI with the Northwoods Band.

Battlerusa 2006 & Covers!

Moonstruck Promotions and Loyal Family have announced a wonderful opportunity for some lucky Midwest bands. Battlerusa 2006 will kickoff January 18th and run until early February making visits in Coloradio, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Each city will have winner that will perform at this year's Wakarusa Music Festival in Lawrence, Kansas. Wakarusa is one of the biggest Midwestern festivals drawing more than 15,000 fans and many great performances last year. Not only will the winning bands play at Wakarusa they will also be featured on compilation CD!

This seems like a no brainer for bands looking to expand their horizons. I know I will be making plans to possibly make my way to Madison to see some of Wisconsin's finest perform.

UM Phans

As discussed today on Live Music Blog it seems like message boards are a place of burden. I have seen tons of threads posted on this picture alone. This photo was apparently taken at the 12/30 Umphrey's McGee show. I guess most of these people flaming away didn't attend shows until they were 18.

The Rave Presents....

Get ready Milwaukeans, The Rave has an exciting late stretch coming up in the next few weeks. Tea Leaf Green, the biggest breakout band of 2005 opens things up on Thursday, January 26 with two more excellent bands after that. Sound Tribe Sector 9 plays Thursday, February 9 and Umphrey's McGee returns to the Rave after an October 9th show last fall the following day on Friday, February 10.

Umphrey's McGee (2/25/05) - Anchor Drops
STS9 (12/31/04) - Movements> 4 My Peeps
Tea Leaf Green (3/11/05) - Freedom

Xavier Rudd

I'm not sure when I began listening to Xavier Rudd, but I can probably figure out why. I am a big fan of the John Butler Trio, also out of Austrailia. Rudd is a one man band, but not in a Keller Williams sense. He plays didgeridoo, guitar, drums, and other percussion instruments. An interesting fact I found out is that he uses 14 microphones for the various instruments. I'm not a sound guy, but that seems like a lot of one person. After being signed by Universal two years ago he has released two albums. Solace brought mores fans as he had already sold 10,000 records indepently. During the summer of 2005, he played a lot of shows in the United States including in front of 80,000 people at Bonnaroo. Rudd just released Food in Belly in December, and will be hitting up Austrailia with a Summer tour (Lucky guy, 2 summers.)

Tour Dates

June 28 - Threadgill's, Austin TX - Gift of Trees
April 19, 2003 - Blues & Roots Music Festival - Byron Bay, Austrailia - State of Mind
July 1, 2005 - Red Rocks - Morrison, CO - Conceal Me

And on a side note...I hope Texas holds onto their 16-10 lead over USC. I still have nightmares of the Notre Dame game.
