The John Butler Trio may be the best kept secret outside of Austrailia, but don't worry their preparing for their first US tour later this month. JBT who just recently signed with
Lava Records this past year after spending most of their time since 2002 with the independent label
Jarrah Records. Jarrah Records whose primarily goal was to represent
The Waifs and JBT's crossover to the US. JBT's first independent release,
Three made its way to the United States in 2000. I can remember when my friend Dan first picked this CD up at
Atomic Records and I was quite amazed by the finger picking John Butler. The native Austrailian sound that created a grassroots rock was simply stunning to my ears. This past spring, they released their first CD titled
Sunrise Over Sea and have been on tour ever since. A small US tour was scheduled during the Spring and they played at numerous cities including opening up for Trey Anastasio this past March at
The Rave. Their national tour has begun this past week and they have five highly anticipated shows with the
Dave Matthews Band beginning at the end of the month in California. They will tour until mid-October also playing gigs at Seattle's
Bumbershoot Festival and
Austin City Limits Festival.
Here are two of my favorites from
Sunrise Over Sea.
