A little late?

Update: Read the official statement from Archive. The audience recordings are back...

I didn't really plan on posting anything on this subject, but why now? If you have been underneath a rock the past few days...

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/30/arts/music/30dead.html

Other than the simple point of the finger to greed, I don't understand why they would pull them off the archive now instead of 5-10 years ago. This is a very big loss to the community, hopefully it'll be steered in the right direction.

Zilla finishing up tour....

After stops in the Midwest in early November, Zilla's tour will be coming to an end with several stops in the Southeast. I was able to see Zilla at The Annex in Madison I was very impressed with this trio made up of Michael Travis, Jamie Jasover, and Aaron Holstein.

Langerado Music Festival Artists Announced

Looks almost better than the Bonnaroo lineup (did I say that?) and that looks promising for the 4th Annual Langerado Music Festival. The festival will take place in Sunrise, Florida on March 11 & 12. Some of the artists include: Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, The Black Crowes, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, The Meters, Slightly Stoopid, Keller Williams, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Umphrey's McGee and many more. For a complete list please visit http://www.langerado.com/artists.html

After discussing the artist lineup with a friend, I think this would be the perfect getaway before I venture off into the "real world". I definately like the ticket prices, now to just find a rental car.

Walk the Line Reviews

After several attempts this weekend at the movies I was unable to buy tickets to Walk the Line because well every day of the weekend was sold out at 2 local theatres. I plan to see this on Tuesday if my class schedule permits. I'm trying to get rid of this senioritis with only 20 days left in the semester....Anyways, here are some reviews:

Rotton Tomatoes
Roger Ebert
Rolling Stone
NPR

If you've seen the movie, feel free to comment and click here for some live video of Johnny Cash.

and here is a Michael Franti song Bomb the World

Keller covers a....lot

I'd like to say Happy late Thanksgiving weekend, a little late but I stuffed myself all weekend with the best turkey and gravy I've had in years. The chip dip during the football game was lacking, but cheese and crackers were acceptable. Anyways, I was cruising the archive.org today and noticed a show of Kellers Williams on October 4, 1994. The show took place at Fin's in Virginia Beach, VA and features tons of covers. The recording is excellent too!

Mexacali Blues

Will it Go Round in Circles

Friday night's show consisted of the second set from Sepetember, 21 1999 at Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, AZ. While picking which set to play I wasn't quite sure if it would set one or two. The first set featured Poor Heart, Sample, Split Open and Melt, Drowned, I Didn't Know, Get Back on the Train, Birds of a Feather, Theme from the Bottom, and Golgi Apparatus. Quite a nice set if you ask me. I decided to play the second set after listening to Carini>Bug.

Tonight's Show

After a grueling week for classes its time for yet another dose of Phish & Chips on WSUW. This week I'll feature a set from July 21st, 1999 from Star Lake Ampitheatre in Burgettestown, PA. I'll also throw in my mix of music at the end of that set so you can sit back and relax on your Friday night drinking or whatever floats your boat. For some reviews check these out. Right now I'm listening to Jack Johnson's set from Vegoose and well I really do enjoy overall. Everyone at Vegoose seemed to have fun while they played with constant interaction with the crowd and that is what really brings the best out in their performances. Once again tune in on 91.7FM from 6-10PM CST in the Whitewater community or catch the stream at www.wsuw.org and click on listen now.

Thanks for downloading the "first" podcast. I plan to do these more in the future.

Brothers Past Finishing Up Fall Tour

Brothers Past is finishing 2005 with an exciting finish. With the tour currently in the Southeast (NC, SC, GA, and FL) and a hometown show planned for Thanksgiving weekend in New York City and Philadelphia. At these shows they'll be doing Fan Appreciation by giving away a lot of free stuff from cds to shirts. For the New Year's Eve show Brothers Past will be playing a late show at The Bowery Ballroom in NYC. They also have a show on December 30, but the venue has not been announced. Their latest album This Feeling's Called Goodbye has been nominated by Home Grown Music for the category of Album of the Year. You can cast your vote here. Live Music Blog also has a post about Brother's Past. (Link)

The First Podcast

After a few quick decisions, I decided to create a podcast that coincides with my radio show on WSUW. I went back and found my show from this past Halloween in which I featured Phish recreating the Talking Heads Remain in Light album.

I'd also like to thank Wolfman Watry for filling in for me Friday evening. His music featured most of the bands that you hear every Friday night from me but he also included some personal favorites such as Cream, Gordon Lightfoot, and lots of moe.

The first podcast includes Set II from 10-31-96.
Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)
Crosseyed and Painless
The Great Curve

Interview with Charlie Hitchcock

An interesting interview was posted by Glide Magazine last week about Charlie Hitchcock and Particle splitting up.

"Charlie Hitchcock Leaving Particle." That was the news headline we recently posted reporting on the above statement issued from the popular Los Angeles band, Particle. There was no quote from Charlie himself, and there was a great deal of ambiguity in the rather passively scripted note, so as unexpected as it was to read, it just seemed like they had merely parted ways, succumbing to the same old story almost every band inevitably falls prey to - someone decides that maybe the real world is an easier place to make a living.

Rockin' at Vegoose

Sorry for the delay, but maybe paying your cable bill can help you also stay online. Friday night was definately an interesting Phish & Chips show. First, I thought the Trey performance from Vegoose was good, but definately missing something. I fully enjoyed his acoustic set after listening to it again, but when he switched back to electric I felt a new energy that I hadn't heard from Trey along side 70 Volt Parade. Jen Hartswick should also get a lot of credit, because she appeared throughout the acoustic songs. I would also like to thank Justin at Livemusicblog.com for linking WSUW's stream to his site. After everyone attempting to log on I checked our streaming computer and realized we need a new one if this keeps happening because well we built that computer with about a million other computers and it was definately having some problems. So thanks everyone for listening and don't forget about this Friday's show!
